Numerator and denominator
When we read a fraction, we read the top number first (the numerator – how many – cardinal number) then the bottom number (the denominator – what type – ordinal number).
Some Special Fractions:
1⁄2 = one half.
1⁄4 = quarter.
3⁄4 = three quarters.
0/5 = zero fifths or zero fractions
5/5 = five fifths or whole fractions
Other fractions:
1⁄3 = one third
5⁄6 = five sixths
2⁄17 = two seventeenths
