How To Type Chinese On A Microsoft Windows 8.1 Computer
Do you want to learning Chinese and want to be able to type Chinese characters on your computer easily? We are using Microsoft Windows 8.1 in this post, setting up a Chinese input method is straightforward and can be done in just a few steps.
Add The Chinese Traditional Keyboard
Step 1: Go to Start > "All apps" down arrow button in the bottom-left corner > Control Panel.

Step 2: Under the "Clock, Language, and Region" category, click on "Add a language" > "Add a language" > “Chinese (Traditional) > click Open button.”

Step 3: Click "Chinese (Traditional, Hong Kong SAR)" for "Chinese Traditional Character" > Add button then you will see "Microsoft Quick" on "Input Method:" or "Keyboard Layout:".

you will see "Microsoft Quick" on "Input Method:" or "Keyboard Layout: |
If you see "Input Method: none available" or "Keyboard Layout: none available" or you want to add "Input method: Microsoft Bopomofo" continue to next Step but if you approve with default option then skip to Step 5.
Step 4: Click Options in the right side.

Step 5: Click "Add an input method" option.

Step 6: Click "Microsoft Bopomofo" > Add button.

If you don't need "Microsoft Quick" and you want to remove on "Input Method:" or "Keyboard Layout:" continue to next Step but if your need is enough then you can skip to Step 8.
Step 7: Click "Remove" option on the right side of "Microsoft Quick".

Step 9: Close the Language ( Control Panel ) window.

Typing Traditional Chinese Character
Step 1: Click ENG button in Microsoft Windows System Tray.
Step 2: Click "Chinese (Traditional, Hong Kong SAR) Microsoft Bopomofo".
Step 3: Click ( 英 ) on the taskbar to change to Chinese Mode ( 中 ), if still in English Mode.
Example
Start to typing Hanzi Chinese, for example to type Fán Tǐ Zì Zhōng Wén: 繁體字中文
Step 1: To typing 繁, first type <z> to write f then type <0> to write an then type <6> to write the 2nd tone.

Step 2: While the character is underlined, press <Down arrow> and the candidate words list will appear.
Step 3: Find your Chinese character with <Down arrow> or <Up arrow>.

Step 4: Choose your choice Chinese character with <Enter>.
Step 5: press <Enter> to confirm and move on.

Notes
- Of course you can change the Microsoft Windows keyboard input ( Input Method Editor / IME ) to the other of your language need.
- In this post, we are using Chinese (Traditional, Hong Kong SAR) or Chinese (Simplified, China), of course you can choose other Chinese Dialect.
- For Step 2, if you don't see "Clock, Language, and Region", click on the View by: change to Category.
