Long Division is a mathematics method for dividing large numbers, which breaks the division problem into multiple steps following a sequence.
Step 1
place every long division part into each place.- Divisor number in the left side of pipe bar / vertical bar.
- Dividend number in the right side of pipe bar and under the overbar.
- Quotient number in the above side of vinculum / overbar.
Step 2
- Take the first digit of the dividend from the left. Check if this digit is greater than or equal to the divisor number.
- Then divide it by the divisor number and write the answer on top as the quotient number.
- Then multiply the divisor number with quotient number so you get the result digit.
- Then subtract the result digit from the dividend number and write the difference number below.
- In this example the difference number is zero so there is no remainder.
