Notepad Plus Plus has a Preferences that can be customized by user based on each user's need.
To open the preference dialog, follow and practice this post: Click Settings > Preferences menu.
General Tab
Localization: Set the language for the Notepad++ user interface.
General Tab > Tab Bar panel
Show close button on each tab: Add the close button to each tab’s entry on the tab bar. Enable or check this option to tweaking to more slim.
General Tab > Menu panel
Hide right shortcuts + ▼ ✕ from the menu bar (Need to restart Notepad++): Makes the + ▼ ✕ resources invisible. Enable or check this option to tweaking to more slim.
Editing 2 Tab
Editing 2 > Multi-Editing
Enable Multi-Editing (Ctrl+Mouse Click/Selection): Allows multiple selections not necessarily contiguous with each other by using Ctrl+Mouse click on the selection(s).
Margins/Border/Edge Tab
Margins/Border/Edge > Change History
Show in the margin: Shows a narrow column with a color to indicate lines that have been changed (orange), or lines that were changed in this session but have been saved (green), or changes that have been undone since the last change (light blue/green). Disable or uncheck this option to tweaking to more slim.
Margins/Border/Edge > Line Number
Display: Shows the line numbers to the left of the text. Enable or check this option first before enable the Constant width option.
Constant width: The line number display will have enough width for any line number in the document. Enable or check this option to tweaking to more slim.
Highlighting Tab
Highlighting > Highlight Matching Tags
Highlight comment/php/asp zone: Any php/asp comment inside the comment zone will be highlighted.
Auto-Completion Tab
Auto-Completion > Auto-Completion
Enable auto-completion on each input: A dropdown selection will appear as you type; arrow keys will select various choices, TAB or ENTER will accept a choice, ESC will cancel auto-completion.
Auto-Completion > Auto-Insert
html/xml close tag: Will automatically insert the closing item for any of the html or xml tag.
Delimiter Tab
Delimiter > Delimiter selection ( settings Ctrl + MouseDoubleClick ).
If you define Open and Close characters, when you do Ctrl + MouseDoubleClick will select everything inside that delimiter pair box
Allow on several lines: Ctrl + MouseDoubleClick will work across multiple lines, instead of just on a single line.
Cloud & Link Tab
Cloud & Link > Clickable Link Settings
Enable: Text that appears to be a URL will allow you to double-click to open that URL in your default browser. When you hover over the URL, it will change to the style defined in Style Configurator > Global Styles > URL hovered.
MISC. Tab
Document Switcher
Enable: When checkmarked, using Ctrl+Tab will allow you to use the Document Switcher popup to switch through all the open documents.
